A book by Croatian-American political scientist, essayist and translator Dr. Tomislav Sunić, published in 1999. The work offers a specific insight into Croatian culture, history and politics from the perspective of the author who is close to the European New Right (Nouvelle Droite). The book was published immediately after the end of the Homeland War, during a period when Croatia was fighting for international recognition of its cultural and political identity. Sunić uses a metapolitical approach in his work, analyzing how Western media and intellectual circles perceive Croatia and the Balkans. Similar to his other works, the author addresses the issues of globalization, liberal democracy and the loss of national identity. Tomislav Sunić graduated in English and French from Zagreb, after which he received his master's and doctorate in political science in the United States. He worked as a professor at American universities and as a diplomat in several Croatian embassies. His best-known works deal with the critique of egalitarianism and the analysis of European right-wing thought.
