"Hogarth" is a monograph by art historian Michael Rosenthal on the life and work of the famous British painter and printmaker William Hogarth (1697–1764). The book offers an overview of Hogarth's entire oeuvre, with particular emphasis on his famous series such as The Rake's Progress and Marriage a-la-mode. The author analyses Hogarth as a key 18th-century artist whose works, imbued with satire and moral messages, define the representation of London at the time. The book contains numerous illustrations, including reproductions of Hogarth's engravings and paintings. Michael Rosenthal is Emeritus Professor of Art History at the University of Warwick. He is a specialist in 18th- and early 19th-century British art, and is also known for his work on Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable.
