"1000 Pin-Up Girls" is an extensive collection of vintage illustrations published by TASCHEN, featuring the work of Peter Driben, one of the most prolific pin-up artists of the 1940s and 50s. The book celebrates the "Girls, Gags & Giggles" era through the covers and inside pages of iconic magazines such as Beauty Parade, Wink, Titter, Eyeful, Flirt and Whisper from 1942-1955. Along with Driben, other masters of the genre such as Earl Moran and Billy DeVorss are represented. In contrast to the more conservative depiction of the "girl next door," these illustrations often feature bolder, burlesque motifs in satin, leather, and fishnet stockings. Driben was known for his ability to combine glamor and humor. Educated at the Sorbonne in Paris, in addition to pin-up art, he has worked in advertising and Hollywood, including creating original posters for the film The Maltese Falcon. His work in Harrison's publications made him one of the most recognizable names of the golden age of American pin-up.
