He meets a wise king, works in a crystal shop in Tangier, and crosses the vast Sahara desert. In the desert, he meets the love of his life, the girl Fatima, but also a mysterious alchemist. The alchemist helps him understand the secrets of the world and learn how to listen to his own heart. At the very end, when he finally reaches the pyramids, Santiago realizes a great life lesson: the real treasure was hidden all along in the place where he started his journey, under an old tree in Spain.
